CASE STUDY — THE WYNDHAM ARMS

A village pub site built to answer five questions fast

The Wyndham Arms Village pub, Somerset

Same pub. Same warmth. A website that finally makes it easy to find out what’s for dinner.

The Wyndham Arms is a traditional village pub in Ilminster, Somerset — the kind of place people search for on a Friday afternoon wanting one thing: to know if they can eat there tonight. We rebuilt the site around the handful of questions every visitor actually has, without losing the character that makes it a village pub and not a chain.

FOUR THINGS THE OLD SITE COULDN’T DO

Same pub. A site that finally keeps up.

  • Show the menu properly

Full digital menu with prices and dietary info

  • Update itself

Client-editable CMS — no code, no waiting on us

  • Look like the pub

    Real photography, not stock

  • Work on a phone

    Fully responsive, built mobile-first

THE CHALLENGE

A pub that needed a website as straightforward as the food

What we do know from the brief: the pub needed a modern, reliable online presence that still felt like The Wyndham Arms — local, welcoming, rustic, unpretentious. The risk with most pub rebuilds is overcorrecting into something polished and corporate that no longer feels like the pub at all. The brief was explicit about avoiding that.

At the same time, the essentials — menu, opening hours, location, what’s on — needed to stop being buried and start being immediate.

OUR APPROACH IN FOUR STEPS

Personality first, then structure

  1. Brand and tone

Designed around the pub’s existing character rather than a generic template. Warm, traditional styling built from the Wyndham Arms’ own photography and voice — deliberately avoiding an overly polished or corporate feel.

  2. UX and navigation

Simplified the structure into clear, customer-focused areas — Menu, Events, Gallery, Find Us — so the information people actually want is immediate, not buried three clicks deep.

  3. Content

Built a dedicated, easy-to-browse digital menu with prices and dietary information, and a proper visual gallery using real photography of the food, team, interior, exterior and events — no stock imagery anywhere.

  4. Technical build

A lightweight static site deployed through Cloudflare, paired with a user-friendly CMS — so the pub can update menus, events and opening information themselves, without touching code or coming back to us for small changes. Mobile-responsive throughout, with clear calls to action and a page structure built to grow as the business does.

BEFORE AND AFTER

What the new site does differently

THE HOMEPAGE

Before
The previous Wyndham Arms homepage
After
The rebuilt Wyndham Arms homepage

The same pub, with the menu, the location and the welcome all readable before you scroll.

  • Find Us, properly

Address, interactive map, opening hours and contact details in one place, not buried or scattered across pages.

  • Food, upfront

A dedicated menu people can actually browse, not a static PDF or a photo of a chalkboard.

  • Ownership without complexity

The pub can edit its own content day to day, on a custom-built front end most CMS-driven sites can’t match on performance.

  • Built to grow

Proper page structure for food, events, story and gallery, rather than a single homepage carrying everything.

WHAT’S NEXT

The site’s just the start, not last orders

Don’t settle for a site that makes finding the menu, checking opening hours, or getting in touch harder than it needs to be. We build sites that make the whole journey frictionless — so the booking stays with the pub, not a directory listing.
